Easter Trailer Hire Blog
Load up your trailer, it’s time for the annual Easter long weekend camping trip!
Not only do we here at Adelaide Trailer Hire have you covered for all your trailer needs, we’ve also got you sorted for all the tips and tricks you’ll need to make your Easter egg hunt something to remember.
First, let’s set the scene…a few years back, I was tasked with setting up the Easter egg hunt. No worries, I thought. I bought some chocolate eggs of dubious quality, wacked them in the Esky and off we went. On Saturday night, I threw a few around the campsite and went to bed.
Imagine the disappointment the next morning when not a skerrick of an egg was left! That’s right, the wildlife had had a feast, and I was in the dog house. A part of me felt guilty that wild animals were probably suffering from some pretty bad stomach aches, but in the main I was more concerned about the ribbing I would get for years and years to come.
Since then I’ve made it my mission to know how to hold the best darn Easter egg hunt at a campsite in SA. Here are my top tips:
- Don’t hide your eggs until the morning. I send the kids off to the bathroom the second they wake up and do a quick hide job whilst they’re gone – they never know the difference.
- Avoid hiding eggs directly on the ground where animals can get them. Instead, try on the annexe, balanced on the tyres of the trailer, or under things like surfboards.
- Try a non-chocolate option and use plastic eggs for the hunt. Better still, get really creative and try a night time Easter egg hunt. Plastic eggs can be filled with glow sticks and hidden as night sets in, kids think this is the bomb and you’ll definitely get some brownie points.
- If an egg hunt is all too hard, try something different – Easter craft (glitter can be used with abandon when it’s not your floor being covered in the evil stuff) or try egg and spoon races and other traditional games.
For the non-chocolate eggs, don’t forget our top tip to pre-crack your eggs and store them in a water bottle ready to be poured. Sure, you lose having a definitely white and yellow part of your fried egg, but you also don’t end up with cracked eggs in your esky and there is no need to bring a whisk if you want to make French toast or pancakes.
We hope this saves you some of the heart ache my kids experienced that ill-fated Easter trip a few years back.
It’s also worth remembering, Easter is a really popular time to go camping. We recommend you get to your camp site early to make sure you get a good spot and, if you haven’t or couldn’t make a booking, have a backup plan in mind, know what other camp sites are within a reasonable distance.
